Pulp were a British rock band from Sheffield who achieved massive success during the Britpop era despite forming in 1978. Led by Jarvis Cocker, their music combined wit, class consciousness, and theatrical delivery. After years of cult status, albums 'His 'n' Hers,' 'Different Class,' and 'This Is Hardcore' brought them mainstream success. 'Common People' became a Britpop anthem addressing class tourism. Cocker's Glastonbury 1995 appearance and his 1996 Brit Awards protest against Michael Jackson became cultural moments. Pulp's influence on British indie rock and their articulate exploration of British life distinguished them from Britpop contemporaries.
