Propaganda were a German synth-pop group formed in Düsseldorf in 1982 who achieved critical and commercial success with their dramatic, orchestral approach to electronic music. Their album 'A Secret Wish' and single 'Duel' combined synthesizers with classical influences and powerful female vocals from Claudia Brücken and Susanne Freytag. Producer Trevor Horn's elaborate production created a distinctive, cinematic sound. Though the band was short-lived, their influence on subsequent electronic and pop acts was notable. Propaganda represented the artistic ambitions possible within synth-pop's commercial format.
