Artist: Pretty Things
Genre: Rock
The Pretty Things were a British rock band formed in London in 1963 who were initially even more raw and rebellious than the Rolling Stones. Their evolution from R&B to psychedelia produced 'S.F. Sorrow' (1968), widely considered the first rock opera, predating The Who's 'Tommy.' Original members Phil May and Dick Taylor (a founding member of the Stones) led the band through various incarnations. Their influence far exceeded their commercial success, with artists from David Bowie to The Ramones acknowledging their debt. The Pretty Things represented rock's ability to evolve from primitive energy to sophisticated concept albums while maintaining authenticity.
