Pretenders II was the second album by The Pretenders, released in 1981. The album continued the band's blend of punk attitude and classic rock songcraft, featuring Chrissie Hynde's distinctive vocals and songwriting. Though it didn't match the critical acclaim of their debut, it demonstrated the band's continued creative momentum. The album preceded the tragic deaths of original members James Honeyman-Scott and Pete Farndon, making it the final recording by the classic lineup. Pretenders II captured the band at a creative peak, before personal tragedies would force Hynde to rebuild the group.
