Artist: Pogues
Genre: Celtic Punk
The Pogues were a British band formed in London in 1982 who pioneered Celtic punk by combining traditional Irish music with punk rock energy. Led by singer-songwriter Shane MacGowan, their music celebrated Irish culture with anarchic spirit. 'Fairytale of New York,' their duet with Kirsty MacColl, became one of the most beloved Christmas songs ever recorded. Albums 'Rum Sodomy & the Lash' and 'If I Should Fall from Grace with God' are considered classics. The Pogues' influence on Celtic rock and their demonstration that traditional music could be revitalized with punk attitude was substantial.
