Pigbag were a British post-punk band from Bristol whose instrumental hit 'Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag' became a UK Top 3 hit in 1982. The song's infectious funk groove and jazz-influenced arrangement made it a crossover success. Pigbag emerged from the same Bristol scene that produced The Pop Group, bringing similar genre-mixing ambitions with more accessible results. Though their chart success was concentrated in this one hit, 'Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag' achieved lasting recognition as a post-punk classic that demonstrated the genre's funk possibilities.
