Pete Atkin is a British singer-songwriter whose collaborations with lyricist Clive James produced some of the most literate songs in popular music. Albums recorded in the early 1970s combined sophisticated lyrics with melodic, folk-influenced arrangements. Though commercial success proved elusive, their work earned critical respect and influenced subsequent singer-songwriters who valued lyrical intelligence. Atkin's recordings have been rediscovered by new audiences appreciating their unusual combination of wit and emotional depth. He represented British singer-songwriting at its most intellectually ambitious.
