Patti Austin is an American R&B and jazz singer whose career began as a child protégée of Dinah Washington and Quincy Jones. Her Grammy-winning duet with James Ingram, 'Baby, Come to Me,' topped the charts in 1983. Austin's versatile voice spans R&B, jazz, and pop with equal command. Her tribute album to Ella Fitzgerald demonstrated her jazz credentials. Austin's session work and background vocals have enriched countless recordings. Her influence on subsequent R&B vocalists who value musical sophistication demonstrated that commercial success and artistic credibility need not be mutually exclusive.
