Artist: Otis Spann
Genre: Blues
Otis Spann was an American blues pianist who became one of the most influential figures in Chicago blues. As the pianist for Muddy Waters' band for nearly two decades, Spann provided the keyboard foundation for some of blues' most important recordings. His solo work demonstrated his abilities as both pianist and vocalist. Spann's distinctive style combined boogie-woogie with sophisticated jazz influences, creating an approach that influenced countless subsequent blues pianists. His death in 1970 was mourned throughout the blues community. Spann's influence on blues piano and his role in defining the Chicago blues sound established him as one of the genre's essential figures.
