The Osmonds were an American family music group from Utah who achieved massive success in the early 1970s. Brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay, and Donny created both bubblegum pop and surprisingly heavy rock music. Hits like 'One Bad Apple,' 'Down by the Lazy River,' and 'Crazy Horses' demonstrated their range. Donny Osmond and sister Marie achieved additional success as solo artists and as a duo. The family's wholesome image, rooted in their Mormon faith, contrasted with the era's rock excess. Their influence on pop music extended through the 1970s teen idol phenomenon. The Osmonds represented family entertainment adapted for the rock era.
