Original Mirrors were a British new wave band formed in 1979 featuring Steve Allen, formerly of The Deaf School. Their intelligent, arty approach to new wave earned them critical respect though commercial success proved elusive. The band's sophisticated arrangements and thoughtful songwriting distinguished them from more straightforward new wave contemporaries. Original Mirrors represented the art school-influenced side of new wave that valued intellectual ambition alongside pop accessibility. Their influence extended through the musicians who continued in other projects after the band's dissolution.
