Genre: Post-Metal/Sludge
Old Man Gloom is an American experimental metal band formed in 1999 as a supergroup featuring members of Isis, Converge, and Cave In. Their music combines sludge metal heaviness with atmospheric experimentation and noise elements. The band's approach, featuring both crushing riffs and ambient passages, influenced the development of post-metal. Old Man Gloom's collaborative nature, bringing together musicians from different influential bands, created a sound greater than its individual components. Their influence on experimental heavy music demonstrated the creative possibilities of musician collaborations across established band boundaries.
