Artist: O.c. Smith
Genre: Soul/Pop
O.C. Smith was an American soul and pop singer who achieved his biggest success with 'Little Green Apples' in 1968, which won a Grammy Award. His smooth vocal style suited the adult contemporary market while maintaining soul credibility. Smith had previously sung with Count Basie's orchestra, giving him jazz credentials. His ability to cross between soul and pop audiences demonstrated the commercial potential of sophisticated Black vocal music during the late 1960s. 'Little Green Apples' became a standard, covered by numerous artists. O.C. Smith represented the quality of soul-pop crossover during a golden era for the format.
