Harry Nilsson was an American singer-songwriter whose eclectic talent and distinctive voice earned him critical acclaim and commercial success. His biggest hits, 'Without You' and 'Everybody's Talkin'' (from the 'Midnight Cowboy' soundtrack), showcased his interpretive abilities, while albums like 'Nilsson Schmilsson' and 'The Point!' demonstrated his songwriting genius. Nilsson's refusal to perform live and his friendship with John Lennon made him a unique figure in 1970s music. His influence on subsequent singer-songwriters who valued quirkiness and emotional depth was substantial. Nilsson's four-octave vocal range and sophisticated arrangements distinguished him from contemporaries. He represented pop music's most creative and unconventional possibilities.
