Nick Heyward is a British singer-songwriter who first achieved fame as the frontman of Haircut One Hundred before pursuing a solo career. Haircut One Hundred's debut album 'Pelican West' produced hits including 'Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)' and 'Love Plus One,' combining jazz-funk influences with new wave pop. Heyward's solo career produced further hits like 'Whistle Down the Wind' and 'Blue Hat for a Blue Day.' His melodic songwriting and cheerful persona contrasted with the darker tendencies of early 1980s pop. Though commercial success diminished after his initial peak, Heyward continued recording and developed a devoted following appreciating his craftsmanship. He represented new pop's sunnier, more optimistic possibilities.
