Nick Drake was a British singer-songwriter whose three albums, recorded between 1969 and 1972, are now considered among the finest works in folk music history. His delicate guitar work, melancholic voice, and introspective lyrics created music of profound beauty that found almost no audience during his lifetime. Albums 'Five Leaves Left,' 'Bryter Layter,' and 'Pink Moon' sold poorly despite critical respect. Drake's depression contributed to his death at 26 from an antidepressant overdose. His posthumous rediscovery, particularly after 'Pink Moon' featured in a Volkswagen commercial, introduced his music to millions. Drake's influence on folk, indie, and singer-songwriter music has been immense, making him one of music's most celebrated cult figures.
