New Musik were a British synth-pop band led by multi-instrumentalist Tony Mansfield who achieved success in the early 1980s. Their hits 'Living by Numbers' and 'This World of Water' showcased their melodic, keyboard-driven sound. Mansfield's production skills and musical sophistication distinguished them from more straightforward synth-pop acts. After New Musik, Mansfield became a successful producer for artists including a-ha and The Damned. New Musik represented the more thoughtful, musically ambitious end of the synth-pop spectrum. Their influence extended through Mansfield's subsequent production work, which brought similar sophistication to other artists' recordings.
