Neneh Cherry is a Swedish singer and rapper whose genre-blending approach anticipated much of contemporary pop music. Her 1989 debut album 'Raw Like Sushi' combined hip-hop, pop, and dance music, producing hits including 'Buffalo Stance' and 'Manchild.' She famously performed on 'Top of the Pops' while visibly pregnant, challenging conventions about women in pop music. Cherry's collaboration with Massive Attack and her continued experimental work demonstrated artistic restlessness. Her stepdaughter is singer Mabel, continuing musical family traditions. Cherry's influence on female artists who combine hip-hop with pop and her fearless genre-crossing made her a significant figure in late 1980s music's evolution toward contemporary sounds.
