Nelson Riddle was an American arranger, composer, and bandleader whose sophisticated orchestrations shaped some of the greatest recordings in popular music history. His work with Frank Sinatra, including landmark albums like 'Songs for Swingin' Lovers!' and 'In the Wee Small Hours,' created templates for jazz-influenced pop arranging. Riddle also arranged for Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and many others. His film scores earned him Academy Awards. In the 1980s, his collaboration with Linda Ronstadt introduced his work to new generations. Riddle's influence on popular music arranging was foundational, establishing standards that subsequent arrangers aspired to match.
