My Bloody Valentine are an Irish-English rock band formed in Dublin in 1983 who became the definitive act of the shoegaze movement. Their 1991 album 'Loveless' is considered one of the most influential albums of its era, creating walls of guitar noise that somehow remained melodic and emotionally affecting. Kevin Shields' innovative guitar techniques and production methods created sounds that others struggled to replicate. The album reportedly nearly bankrupted Creation Records due to Shields' perfectionism. After years of silence, they returned with 'm b v' in 2013. My Bloody Valentine's influence on alternative rock, particularly their approach to guitar texture, was immeasurable.
