Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer whose prolific output and extraordinary genius made him one of the most influential composers in Western classical music. In his brief 35 years, he created masterworks in virtually every genre: operas ('The Marriage of Figaro,' 'Don Giovanni,' 'The Magic Flute'), symphonies, concertos, chamber music, and choral works including the Requiem. Mozart's music combines formal perfection with profound emotional expression. A child prodigy who performed throughout Europe, he brought unprecedented depth to every form he touched. His influence on subsequent composers, from Beethoven forward, was immense. Mozart's music remains central to the classical repertoire, performed and recorded more frequently than almost any other composer.
