Artist: Mott The Hoople
Genre: Glam Rock
Mott the Hoople were a British rock band from Herefordshire who became one of the most influential glam rock acts of the early 1970s. Their career was revitalized when David Bowie gave them 'All the Young Dudes,' which became an anthem for glam rock youth. Original compositions like 'Roll Away the Stone' and Ian Hunter's literate songwriting gave them substance beyond glam's surface. The band's blend of rock, glam, and Dylan-influenced lyrics influenced punk rock and subsequent alternative artists. Guitarist Mick Ralphs later co-founded Bad Company. Mott the Hoople's legend has grown since their breakup, with artists from The Clash to Def Leppard acknowledging their influence. Hunter continued a respected solo career.
