Mötley Crüe are an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles formed in 1981 who became one of the most successful and notorious acts of the 1980s glam metal era. Their combination of heavy rock with glam image and decadent lifestyle made them MTV favorites. Hits including 'Girls, Girls, Girls,' 'Dr. Feelgood,' 'Home Sweet Home,' and 'Kickstart My Heart' defined the era's excess. Their autobiography 'The Dirt,' detailing extraordinary drug use and debauchery, became a best-seller and film. Despite (or because of) their notorious behavior, Mötley Crüe sold over 100 million albums worldwide. They represented the 1980s Sunset Strip metal scene at its most extreme and commercially successful.
