Mike Rutherford is a British musician, songwriter, and guitarist/bassist best known as a founding member of Genesis. His bass and guitar work contributed to Genesis's progressive sound from their art-rock beginnings through their pop success. Rutherford's twelve-string guitar and bass pedal techniques created distinctive textures. His side project Mike + The Mechanics achieved major success with hits including 'The Living Years.' Within Genesis, he co-wrote numerous songs and helped shape the band's evolution. Rutherford's ability to contribute meaningfully to both progressive rock and mainstream pop demonstrated his versatility and songwriting craft. He remains active in music and Genesis reunions.
