Artist: Michael Nesmith
Genre: Country Rock
Michael Nesmith is an American musician, songwriter, and actor best known as a member of The Monkees. His country-rock compositions for the group, including 'Papa Gene's Blues' and 'Listen to the Band,' anticipated the country-rock movement. After The Monkees, his First National Band pioneered country rock before The Eagles and others brought it to commercial prominence. Nesmith also created PopClips, the precursor to MTV. His solo work demonstrated sophisticated songwriting beyond his Monkees fame. Nesmith's influence on country rock and his later contributions to music video format established him as a significant innovator whose importance extended beyond his 1960s television fame.
