Miami Sound Machine was an American band formed in Miami in 1975, led by Emilio and Gloria Estefan, who achieved international success with their blend of Latin rhythms and pop. Hits including 'Conga,' 'Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,' and 'Dr. Beat' brought Latin dance music to mainstream audiences worldwide. The band's energetic performances and Gloria Estefan's charismatic vocals made them crossover stars. As Gloria Estefan's solo career developed, Miami Sound Machine gradually became her backing band. Their influence on Latin pop's commercial acceptance was substantial, paving the way for the Latin pop explosion of the late 1990s. Miami Sound Machine demonstrated that Latin music could achieve mainstream American success.
