The Meteors are a British psychobilly band formed in 1980 who are widely credited as pioneers of the genre. Their fusion of rockabilly with punk rock attitude and horror film imagery created the template that defined psychobilly. Albums like 'In Heaven' and 'Wreckin' Crew' established the genre's sound and aesthetic. The band's founder P. Paul Fenech maintained The Meteors across decades and countless lineup changes. Their influence on psychobilly and horror punk was foundational, with virtually all subsequent psychobilly bands acknowledging their debt to The Meteors. They represented the power of combining disparate genres into something distinctly new.
