The Members were a British punk rock band from Surrey formed in 1977 who combined punk energy with reggae influences. Their biggest hit, 'The Sound of the Suburbs,' captured suburban alienation with wit and memorable hooks. The band's blend of punk, ska, and new wave anticipated the two-tone movement. Though they never achieved the commercial success of some punk contemporaries, The Members earned respect for their musicianship and songwriting. 'The Sound of the Suburbs' remains one of punk's most enduring songs, regularly appearing on compilations of the era. The Members represented punk's more melodic, stylistically adventurous possibilities.
