Martin Carthy MBE is a British folk singer and guitarist who has been one of the most influential figures in the British folk revival since the 1960s. His innovative guitar techniques and interpretations of traditional songs influenced artists from Bob Dylan to Paul Simon. Carthy's work with groups including Steeleye Span and The Watersons demonstrated his collaborative abilities alongside his distinguished solo career. His commitment to traditional material combined with constant artistic renewal kept his performances vital across decades. Carthy's influence on British folk guitar playing was foundational.
