Artist: Marillion
Genre: Progressive Rock
Marillion are a British rock band formed in Aylesbury in 1979 who became leaders of the neo-progressive rock movement. Their early albums with vocalist Fish, including 'Script for a Jester's Tear' and 'Misplaced Childhood' (featuring the hit 'Kayleigh'), achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. After Fish's departure, Steve Hogarth's vocals led the band in more alternative directions while maintaining progressive complexity. Marillion pioneered direct-to-fan marketing, funding albums through fan pre-orders before crowdfunding became common. Their influence on the progressive rock revival and their innovative business approaches demonstrated that progressive rock could thrive outside mainstream industry structures. Marillion's devoted international following supports their continued artistic evolution.
