Mari Wilson is a British singer who achieved success in the early 1980s with her retro-styled pop influenced by 1960s girl groups and the beehive era. Her biggest hit, 'Just What I Always Wanted,' combined vintage aesthetics with contemporary production. Wilson's distinctive image, including an enormous beehive hairdo, made her visually memorable during the new wave era. Her sophisticated pop-soul sound earned her critical appreciation alongside commercial success. After her initial chart success, Wilson continued performing jazz and cabaret material. She represented the early 1980s interest in retro aesthetics while maintaining genuine musical quality.
