Mari Wilson is a British singer who achieved success in the early 1980s with her retro-styled pop influenced by 1960s girl groups and the beehive era. Her biggest hit, 'Just What I Always Wanted,' combined vintage aesthetics with contemporary production. Wilson's distinctive image, including an enormous beehive hairdo, made her visually memorable during the new wave era. Her sophisticated pop-soul sound earned her critical appreciation alongside commercial success. After her initial chart success, Wilson continued performing jazz and cabaret material.
