Mantronix were an American hip-hop and electronic music group formed in New York in 1985 by DJ Kurtis Mantronik and MC Tee. Their innovative use of sampling and drum machines pushed hip-hop production forward, influencing both hip-hop and electronic dance music. Tracks like 'King of the Beats' and 'Got to Have Your Love' demonstrated their range from hardcore hip-hop to dance-pop. Mantronik's production techniques were ahead of their time, anticipating later electronic dance music developments. The group's crossover success in the UK proved that their innovative approach had international appeal. Mantronix represented hip-hop production's experimental possibilities.
