Luther Vandross was an American singer, songwriter, and producer whose smooth, powerful voice made him one of R&B's most celebrated artists. Beginning as a background vocalist and jingle singer, he became a solo star with albums like 'Never Too Much,' 'Give Me the Reason,' and 'Power of Love.' His hits included 'Never Too Much,' 'Here and Now,' 'Dance with My Father,' and 'A House Is Not a Home.' Vandross's romantic ballads and impeccable phrasing made him R&B's premier male balladeer. His production work for artists including Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick demonstrated his behind-the-scenes talents. Despite health struggles, Vandross continued creating music until his death in 2005. His influence on subsequent R&B vocalists has been immense.
