Loop were a British space rock band formed in London in 1986, led by guitarist Robert Hampson. Their hypnotic, droning sound combined elements of krautrock, psychedelia, and noise rock into intense, immersive music. Albums like 'Heaven's End,' 'Fade Out,' and 'A Gilded Eternity' influenced subsequent shoegaze and space rock artists. Loop's uncompromising approach prioritized atmosphere and texture over conventional song structures. After Loop disbanded, Hampson pursued ambient and experimental music as Main. Loop's influence on alternative and experimental rock, particularly their approach to guitar-based drone, has been acknowledged by numerous subsequent artists. They represented British psychedelia's most intense and uncompromising edge.
