Lone Justice were an American country rock band from Los Angeles fronted by vocalist Maria McKee, whose powerful voice drew comparisons to Janis Joplin and Dusty Springfield. Their self-titled 1985 debut, produced by Jimmy Iovine, earned critical acclaim and celebrity endorsement from artists including Bob Dylan and Bono. Their blend of country, rock, and soul anticipated the Americana movement. Though commercial success proved elusive and the band disbanded after two albums, McKee's vocal performances and their artistic vision influenced subsequent roots rock artists. Lone Justice represented the possibility of combining country authenticity with rock energy for contemporary audiences.
