Artist: Light Of The World
Genre: Funk/R&B
Light of the World were a British funk and R&B band formed in London in the late 1970s who became pioneers of the British jazz-funk scene. Their hits, including 'London Town' and 'Time,' showcased their tight musicianship and authentic funk credentials. The band's lineup spawned several successful offshoots, including Beggar & Co and Incognito. Light of the World demonstrated that British musicians could create credible funk music with their own character rather than merely imitating American models. Their influence on British soul and funk extended through the 1980s acid jazz movement. Light of the World represented the quality and ambition of British black music during a crucial developmental period.
