Leon Haywood was an American R&B singer, songwriter, and producer whose career spanned several decades. His biggest hit, 'I Want'a Do Something Freaky to You' (1975), became a significant R&B success and achieved renewed prominence when Dr. Dre sampled it extensively for 'Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang.' Haywood's production and songwriting demonstrated sophisticated understanding of funk and soul. His influence on hip-hop through sampling introduced his music to new generations. Haywood continued performing until his death in 2016. His career demonstrated how earlier R&B recordings could find new life through hip-hop's creative reuse of classic material.
