Artist: Lee Morgan
Genre: Jazz
Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter who became one of the most brilliant and influential musicians in hard bop. His virtuosic technique and soulful approach produced classics including 'The Sidewinder,' whose funky groove achieved rare jazz crossover success. Morgan's career began as a teenager with Dizzy Gillespie before joining Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. His Blue Note recordings are considered essential jazz documents. Morgan's life was tragically cut short when he was shot by his common-law wife at a New York club in 1972, aged just 33. His influence on jazz trumpet and the hard bop tradition remains immense. Morgan's recordings demonstrate a brilliant talent whose full potential was never realized.
