Larry Coryell was an American jazz guitarist who pioneered the fusion of jazz with rock music, earning him the title 'Godfather of Fusion.' His work with Gary Burton and his own group The Eleventh House helped establish jazz fusion as a genre. Coryell's virtuosic technique and willingness to incorporate rock elements into jazz expanded the music's vocabulary. His acoustic work demonstrated equal mastery of traditional jazz guitar. Coryell's influence on subsequent jazz-rock guitarists was substantial, and he continued performing and recording until his death in 2017. His contribution to the development of fusion guitar and his consistent artistic exploration established him as one of jazz guitar's most important figures.
