The hit 'Pretend We're Dead' brought them mainstream exposure, while albums like 'Bricks Are Heavy' demonstrated their ability to combine heaviness with hooks. L7 co-founded Rock for Choice, organizing benefit concerts for abortion rights. Their refusal to be categorized as a 'girl band' and their musical authenticity challenged gender expectations in rock. After a hiatus, L7 reunited in 2014, proving their continued relevance. Their influence on subsequent female rock musicians has been substantial.
