Kim Wilde is a British pop singer who became one of the most successful female artists of the 1980s. Her debut single 'Kids in America,' written by her father Marty Wilde and brother Ricky, launched her career with its energetic synth-pop sound. Subsequent hits including 'Chequered Love,' 'Cambodia,' 'View from a Bridge,' and her cover of 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' maintained her chart presence throughout the decade. Wilde's combination of new wave style with pop accessibility made her an MTV staple. She achieved success across Europe and the United States, unusual for British female artists of the era. After her pop career, Wilde became a successful garden designer while continuing to perform on retro tours. Her influence on 1980s pop and female synth-pop artists remains significant.
