The Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band was a multinational jazz big band co-led by American drummer Kenny Clarke and Belgian pianist and arranger Francy Boland. Active primarily in the 1960s and 1970s, the band featured top European and American jazz musicians based in Europe. Their sophisticated arrangements and stellar soloists produced acclaimed recordings for MPS and other labels. The band represented the internationalization of jazz in the post-war era, demonstrating that world-class jazz could be created outside America. Clarke's impeccable drumming and Boland's intelligent arrangements created a distinctive sound. The Clarke-Boland Big Band's recordings remain respected examples of large ensemble jazz at its most sophisticated.
