Artist: Keith Emerson
Genre: Progressive Rock
Keith Emerson was a British keyboardist and composer who became one of the most influential and technically accomplished musicians in rock history. With Emerson, Lake & Palmer, he brought classical music's complexity and virtuosity to rock audiences. His theatrical performances, including stabbing his Hammond organ with knives and playing it upside down, combined showmanship with genuine musicianship. Emerson's compositions, including his arrangement of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition' and original works like 'Tarkus,' demonstrated that rock could achieve classical ambition. Before ELP, he pioneered keyboard rock with The Nice. Emerson's influence on progressive rock keyboards and the acceptance of synthesizers in rock was foundational. His tragic death in 2016 marked the loss of a true keyboard innovator.
