Junior Giscombe, known professionally as Junior, is a British R&B singer who achieved significant success in the 1980s. His biggest hit, 'Mama Used to Say,' reached the Top 30 in both the UK and US, establishing him as a prominent British soul artist. The song's combination of R&B vocals with synth-funk production represented the sound of early 1980s British soul. Subsequent singles continued his success in the UK R&B market. Junior's smooth vocal style and contemporary production made him competitive with American R&B artists during a period of growth for British soul music.
