Artist: Julie Andrews
Genre: Musical Theatre/Soundtrack
Dame Julie Andrews is a British actress, singer, and author whose crystalline soprano voice and wholesome persona made her one of the most beloved entertainers of the 20th century. Her performances in 'Mary Poppins' and 'The Sound of Music' produced iconic songs including 'Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,' 'A Spoonful of Sugar,' 'My Favorite Things,' and 'Do-Re-Mi.' Andrews originated roles in Broadway's 'My Fair Lady' and 'Camelot' before her film career. Her vocal range and clarity set standards for musical theatre performance. A throat surgery in 1997 damaged her singing voice, though she continued acting and writing. Andrews' influence on musical performance and her embodiment of a certain ideal of entertainment elegance has been profound and enduring.
