His songwriting earned covers by numerous artists, with 'Daydream Believer' becoming a number-one hit for The Monkees. Stewart's solo work explored country rock and Americana territories, with his 1979 album 'Bombs Away Dream Babies' and the single 'Gold' achieving commercial success. His songwriting combined folk sensibilities with rock energy and country influences. Stewart continued recording and performing until his death in 2008, maintaining a devoted following who appreciated his craft and authenticity. His influence on the Americana movement was acknowledged by subsequent artists.
