Artist: Jam
Genre: Punk/Mod Revival
The Jam were a British rock band formed in Woking in 1972, led by vocalist and guitarist Paul Weller. They became one of the most successful acts of the punk and new wave era, achieving eighteen consecutive UK Top 40 singles. Their sound combined punk energy with 1960s mod influences, particularly The Who and the Small Faces, creating a distinctly British style. Classic songs include 'Going Underground,' 'Town Called Malice,' 'The Eton Rifles,' and 'Start!' Weller's articulate, socially conscious lyrics addressed working-class British life with intelligence and passion. The Jam split at the height of their success in 1982, with Weller forming Style Council and later pursuing a solo career. Their influence on British guitar music, from Britpop to indie rock, has been immense and enduring.
