The Incredible String Band were a Scottish psychedelic folk group who became one of the most influential and adventurous acts of the late 1960s. Founded by Robin Williamson and Mike Heron, the band created a unique sound incorporating folk traditions from around the world with psychedelic experimentation. Albums like 'The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion' and 'The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' were celebrated for their ambitious scope and otherworldly beauty. The band's willingness to incorporate exotic instruments and global musical influences anticipated world music decades before the term existed. Their influence extended to artists from Led Zeppelin to current folk revivalists. The Incredible String Band represented the most adventurous and experimental wing of the British folk revival.
