Artist: Igor Stravinsky
Genre: Classical
Igor Stravinsky was a Russian-born composer who became one of the most influential and revolutionary figures in 20th-century classical music. His early ballets for Sergei Diaghilev—'The Firebird,' 'Petrushka,' and especially 'The Rite of Spring'—transformed modern music with their innovative rhythms, harmonies, and orchestration. 'The Rite of Spring' famously caused a riot at its 1913 premiere due to its radical departures from convention. Stravinsky's career encompassed multiple stylistic periods, from Russian nationalism through neoclassicism to serialism, demonstrating remarkable artistic evolution. He eventually settled in the United States and became an American citizen. Stravinsky's influence extends across classical, jazz, and popular music, with his rhythmic innovations particularly impactful. He remains one of the most performed and studied composers of the modern era.
